August 2007 Prayer Letter

Dear Friends,

As happens every so often, I'm on a short deadline this month.  I'm just getting ready to leave for the WMF retreat and I realized that I'll be gone on and beyond the 15th (when these letters are due each month).  That means I need to get this posted quickly today.

We've been having a great summer thus far.  Even though many of our staff have been gone, the programs with the kids are going well.  Our desire was to somehow give the kids more attention even during this time with less staff.  And it seems to be working.  So far I've felt like I've had more quality time than usual of just being with the kids and enjoying our time together.  Our program at the center is similar to years past – doing some homework (yes, homework in the summer!), singing and praying together, times every week for art and Bible study, and loads of play time.  And every Friday we have an outing of some kind – going to the swimming pool or to a park or something like that.  Please keep us in your prayers this month as August is always a time when lots of staff members are gone for one reason or another.  Pray that we will continue to have good, quality time with the kids.

Of course, my main prayer request this month is for our upcoming summer camp.  Our camp for the school kids is a little later than usual this year, Aug. 6-12.  Remember how last fall we received a bunch of new kids?  Well, that means this year will be their first time going to camp.  It seems like every year the time at camp is a great time of going deeper in relationship with many of the children and for building new levels of trust with them.  We're praying for the same this year.  We're also going to a new location this year that should prove to be lots of fun for the kids.  The camp has a sand volleyball court, an outdoor basketball/tennis court, and a soccer field.  There's also a trampoline, so please pray that no one breaks any bones.  Since the camp ends before our monthly deadline, I should be able to give a full report in next month's letter.

I'll close this time by saying that it was great getting to speak with many of you this past month.  Thank you so much for your continued prayers.  I trust that you're having a great summer.

Love,

Paul
