February Prayer Letter

As I began as an intern staff member at the day center serving Jesus among the poor, things started to change. I was no longer helping too much with the small children, but i began a program with the older girls. When I heard God`s call at sixteen, I knew i wanted to follow Him among the poor. Led by the Spirit to see God`s heart, I felt called to become a mother for the abused girls; girls who live in the darkenness.

At the day center I work most of the time with the young girls (ages 15-19), and I confess that every time I touch them, I feel like I`m touching God. Being a mother for them teaches me about God being a Father for me. Every day I spend with the girls I can sense their feelings of insecurity, I can hear their cry after communion, love, acceptance. As I show them love they struggle, they panic...As I hold them in my arms they worry, they cry, they become anxious. All this teaches me about my Father and me. He keeps on saying: "I love you, my daughter, I am holding you in My arms. You are safe." Even though I often fear and cry, His arms still hold me. Being a mother is not as easy as we think, but is the best thing ever!

As I keep learning every day about love and communion I pray that these girls and those yet to come will get to know God as a Father and as their Saviour.

I have called this year "The year of intimacy with God". The year when He will "draw me close to Him and we will run together" (Song of songs 1:4). Intimacy with Jesus is our higest calling and created purpose, and so I want to turn from the complex temptations of the world to the simplicity of the love of God. I want to live simply so others may simply live. I want to spend time in intimacy with Christ for "here we become compassionate people,deeply aware of our solidarity in broknness with all of humanity and ready to reach out to anyone in need."
