Overview
In Galati , Word Made Flesh Romania works among marginalized children and poor families. Some are destitute. Some are forced to beg. Because many come from homes broken by abuse, alcoholism, and poverty, they are forced to struggle for survival on the streets. Yet Jesus compels us to respond, “Whatever you did to the least of these, you did it to Me.”
Our hope is to see the love of God ministered holistically through relationships with the street children, poor children and their families. We long to see the children and their families come to know the Lord Jesus and grow in Him.
Word Made Flesh Romania responds to the wound of poverty through:
Intervention – We respond to the urgent needs of children. Whether it is medical aid or nutritious meals, we seek to respond in a tangible way to the immediate pain of poverty that each child experiences.
Integration – We desire the healthy participation of each child in the local community. We provide material support to help the children integrate into a healthy family environment, and tutoring to help children integrate into public schools and vocational courses. As local churches welcome the children, the foundations for a lifetime of discipleship are built.
Prevention – Through education, both for children and their families, the cycle of poverty can be impeded and hope can be renewed. We seek to help siblings of street children who themselves are at high risk of entering into street life. We provide nutritious meals, hygiene, health care, loving discipline, and counseling- all of which are key factors to keeping children healthy and in school. Through Bible study, worship, and prayer, children learn about God's great love for them. Monthly parent meetings address issues pertinent to families' lives. Home visits help to build relationships and appropriately respond to the needs of the families.
Our community is primarily serving in three locations:
On the Streets – Many of the children spend their days begging and their nights staying warm in sewers and apartment stairwells. WMF Romania works in neighborhoods where children are living on the streets. Through soccer games, shared meals and conversations, we build relationships and experience together the love and presence of Jesus in the midst of the darkness and suffering of the streets.
Valley House – The Valley House is a community center for marginalized children and their families. We serve the children through educational assistance, Bible study, medical aid, nutritious meals, and showers. The children also participate in art therapy, counseling, computer lessons, and gardening. Through monthly parent meetings, issues such as discipline, health, children's rights, and development are discussed so that they can be implemented into children's families.
